I think I've added the backwards compatibility and while doing so,
understood and fixed the finelink.c:replace_maybe_replies() crash
you reported. It was related.
I'm not sure if this happened when you got into the block that
says: /*check for old critmail format */. You would arrive there
if you were updating a pre-WAI hypermail archive.
I uploaded a new tar file with the code changes.

I hope I can commit the changes soon (once they get approved by
