For the sake of discussion, I wanted to throw in my 2 cents...
There are ways to avoid getting spam on public (open) lists. I run
several lists on our server and I have yet to get spam on any of them.
And I can say the same about any other list that I'm subscribed to.
What I do end up doing a lot of times though, when I do find out
about a particular site that frequently sends out spam (such as AOL as
they recently started doing that rather often), I end up setting up a
block in our MTA, instead of generating reject rules for users. At the
same time, I do leave certain parts open for perfectly sane emails from
people we do know at such domains to come through (using a different MX
server).
Now, I understand not all of us have access to our MTA's to
inflict such damage, but I just wanted to make a point that you don't
always have to block everything/everyone from a particular domain, or that
matches a particular regexp - there are ways around it and frankly,
sometimes putting an extra efford in to solving the problem will make
everyone else happy. Blindly blocking something/someone without
consideration is just not fair for all parties involved.
Now, can we go back to discussing HyperDev, or do I have to start
a new list called 'we-all-bitch-because-we-have-the-right-to' ? <smirk>
