A) If you just remove the <li> tags, how do you start each new link? Simply
removing them in non-table output will make it look really bad...
B) There already exists table support in hypermail 2a14+. I can't really
tell how good it is and works, but there is support for it and I know
(some) people use it.

Support for those already exist. I'd advice you to read the hmrc.4 file a
little bit more careful. %l will show the "archive label" and %s will show
you the subject.
